Forensic Face Comparison Training

Overview

Dr. Spaun is a former FBI facial examiner and developed the FBI’s initial Facial Comparison Course.  She presents nationally and internationally and has testified in State and Federal courts as an FBI expert witness. Her course builds on that experience and conforms to recommendations from the Facial Identification Scientific Working Group (FISWG) for vendor-independent training.

Course modules include:

• Principles of Comparative Forensic Science

– Training for facial review, defined as the use of output from a facial recognition system where additional information is likely available
– An introduction to facial identification, defined as forensic 1:1 comparison to be presented in court

• Facial Anatomy
• Image Science and Image Processing
• Biometric Systems
• Legal History
• Court Presentation

Note: Students must bring a laptop to class.
